DEV KHANNA’S LATEST SHORT FILM - A HINDU’S
INDICTMENT OF HEAVEN - TO PREMIER AT THE 2009
TORONTO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
TORONTO, ONTARIO – August 4, 2009 – Indictment Films is pleased to announce the
world premier screening of ‘A HINDU’S INDICTMENT OF HEAVEN’ in the Short Cuts
Canada program at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival.
A dramatic comedy at its core, ‘A HINDU’S INDICTMENT OF HEAVEN’ is a story of
betrayal and lost love. Returning director Dev Khanna (Plums & Prunes TIFF’07) has
created a stunning visual interpretation of a woman forced to choose between heaven
and heart.
The film stars up-and-coming Canadian film starlet Georgina Reilly who was in last
year’s TIFF smash ‘PONTY POOL’. Also starring is veteran theatre and television actor
David Fox, best known for ROAD TO AVONLEA and his Dora award-winning
performance in THE DRAWER BOY.
“The aim of this film is to question clichéd notions of ‘Soul Mate’ and ‘Eternal
Happiness’,” said Khanna. “Are we able to truly love only one person in our lives? The
film questions the idea of ‘Eternal Bliss’ and ‘Reunion with Loved Ones’. Being a Hindu,
my faith does not have these ideas. I wanted to create a middle ground or a bridge
between two cultures that can ultimately create a deeper understanding of the idea of
love and happiness.”
With current producers Lenny Foreht and Andre Bharti, Khanna is in pre-production for
his first feature film called Fondi ’91. Set against a background of lost innocence,
youthful frivolity and dark moral themes, Fondi ’91 is a plot driven character story that
follows the lustful adventures of a Jersey-based high school soccer team’s two week
trip to Europe. Principal photography is set to begin in March 2010 in Rome, Italy.
